What to do at the Chelsea Flower Show

Whether you’re a houseplant parent, an enthusiastic gardener or just love nature, the Chelsea Flower Show has plenty to explore. Taking place between the 23rd and 27th of May 2023 at The Royal Hospital Chelsea, this annual event is run by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). As always, it promises a feast for the senses.

Central to the event are the show gardens. This is where exhibitors from around the world build stunning outdoor spaces. It’s both for visitors to explore and the show’s expert panel to judge. Inspired by community, charitable and personal causes, these temporary sanctuaries give any green-fingered person plenty to discover and admire.

To immerse yourself even further, step into the show’s Great Pavilion. Here, you’ll see and smell plants and flowers from the world’s best growers. Alternatively, take a peek at the Houseplant Studios in Ranelagh Gardens to get some inspiration for your home. Or, have your mind blown by the exciting gadgets and innovations in the Discovery Zone.

Plus, there’s plenty for shopaholics and food lovers to enjoy. Pick up a gift for your garden-loving friend from one of the artisan makers.

You can also sample the first taste of summer at the Ranelagh or Champagne & Seafood restaurants, or take afternoon tea in the Drawing Room. Or, grab a bite from one of the cafes or food courts to fuel an afternoon of exploring.

Getting to Chelsea Flower Show

There are many ways to get to the Chelsea Flower Show. However, for the most relaxed journey from outside the capital, there’s no better option than to hop on an Avanti West Coast train to Chelsea Flower Show.

The closest station to the showground is Sloane Square. Take a train to London Euston from Birmingham, Manchester or Glasgow and then jump on the underground ready to visit Chelsea Flower Show.

About the Chelsea Flower Show

The Chelsea Flower Show is set on the banks of the river Thames. It started life as the RHS Great Spring Show, which held its first event in Kensington in 1862. Since then, it’s grown from a single tent of around 250 exhibitors to more than 23 acres of stands, gardens and pavilions.

Thanks to this, The Chelsea Flower Show is a must-visit destination for gardeners from all walks of life. The show serves as a fantastic place for spotting famous faces alongside the world’s rarest and most beautiful plants.

Plus, those visiting early in the week may notice the judging panel inspecting the exhibits. They strictly spend just 45 minutes in each garden, awarding gold, silver-gilt, silver and bronze medals. These are awarded for more than ten prizes, including Best in Show, Best Construction and Best Houseplant Studio.
