Trains to Nuneaton

What to do, how to get there and how to get home with Avanti West Coast.

Nuneaton’s claim to fame is that it’s the birthplace of George Eliot, author of The Mill on the Floss and Middlemarch, among several other notable novels and poems. Scenes of Clerical Life, her first published work, was based in the town, and Eliot fans love to come here to spot the locations, and of course to admire the statue to the great author in the centre of town. It was also the birthplace of Gareth Edwards, who directed Godzilla and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. That’s quite a roll call!

Nuneaton River

Historically, Nuneaton was known around the world for its ribbon weaving, and before the industrial revolution, it was done in homes with special large-windowed upstairs rooms called topshops that are unique to the area. Some of them can still be seen today, although the name has a slightly different meaning in the modern fashion industry.

Nuneaton is served by the eastern branch of the West Coast Mainline between Rugby and Stoke, so it’s a doddle to get to from Scotland and Northern or Southern England. On this page you’ll find all you need to know on trains to Nuneaton, how you can pay the absolute minimum on travel, plus what to do when you’re here.
