Great British Rail Sale

Train operating companies across England and Wales worked together to offer up to 50% off selected Advance tickets on over 1 million journeys. The discounted fares were available from participating train operating companies and ticket retailers.

The Great British Rail Sale was available from Tuesday 23 January to Monday 29 January 2024. Tickets purchased can be used for travel between Tuesday 30 January and Friday 15 March 2024.

Great British Rail Sale train tickets purchased during the sale can only be used for travel between 30 January and 15 March 2024.

Sale tickets were available on a wide selection of routes across England and Wales, as well as some journeys to and from Scotland.

No, Railcard discounts do not apply to Great British Rail Sale Tickets, and no other discounts can be used in conjunction with the Great British Rail Sale Tickets.

Sale train tickets purchased during the Great British Rail Sale are non-refundable, unless the service you are booked to travel on is delayed or cancelled and you choose not to travel.

PROMOTIONAL FARES

1. These terms and conditions apply to Promotional fares. Promotional fares means tickets available for purchase as “Rail Sale” tickets only during the Term. Promotional fares are available in Standard Class for selected journeys.

3. Promotional fares are only available via website and mobile applications.

BOOKING DEADLINE

4. Promotional fares must be bought at least one 1 day in advance of travel. Promotional fares are available to buy from 10:00 on 23 January 2024 until 23:59 on 29 January 2024; for travel from 30 January 2024 until 23:59 15 March 2024 (the “Term”).

SELECTED ROUTES AND LIMITED AVAILABILITY 

5. The following travel exclusion dates will apply:

2 and 3 February 2024 (industrial action) and 10 March 2024 (engineering work on the West Coast Main Line) across all Avanti West Coast services.

6. 100,000 seats available as of 22 January 2024 in Standard Class only.

7. Promotional fares are subject to quota-controlled availability.

8. Promotional fares are available for selected journeys only and may not be available at some peak times. Availability will be lower on certain dates and routes, which are expected to be busy, and subject to demand.

9. Maximum of 9 persons per booking.

GENERAL

10. “Rail Sale” fares are non-refundable, except where permitted under the terms of the National Rail Conditions of Travel. Any change of journey requests incur a £10 admin fee in addition to the difference in fare.

11. Child concession of 50% applies for customers aged 5-15 inclusive. Up to two children aged under 5 can travel free with each fare paying passenger (seat reservations for children aged under 5 are not available).

12. Child discounts and Railcards are applicable. Railcards include 16-17 Saver, 16-25 Railcard, 26-30 Railcard, Family & Friends Railcard, Two Together Railcard, Senior Railcard, Disabled Persons Railcard, Veterans Railcard.

13. Customers may not start, break and resume, or end their journey at any intermediate station except to change to/from connecting trains as shown on the ticket(s).

14. These tickets will not be valid for travel on other train operators' services, or on dates or times other than as shown on the ticket.

1.0 Great British Rail Sale Promotion

1.1 - These terms and conditions apply to the Great British Rail Sale, a promotion coordinated by ATOC Ltd on behalf of participating Train Companies for the Promotional Period.

1.2 Over one million promotional Rail Sale Tickets will be available on selected journeys across the National Rail network (in England and to/from Scotland and Wales) for the Promotional Period.

1.3 The Promotional Period will run from 10:00 on 19 April 2022 until all Rail Sale Tickets have been sold or 23:59 on 2 May 2022, whichever is sooner, for travel between 25 April 2022 and 27 May 2022. The number of Rail Sale Tickets available during the Promotional Period is limited and subject to availability (see clause 2 below).

1.4 Rail Sale Tickets are selected Advance or Off-Peak tickets with fares discounted by individual participating Train Companies, up to 50% off the equivalent full price Advance ticket fare. Where a participating Train Company does not offer Advance tickets, Off-Peak ticket fares may be offered as an alternative. Rail Sale Tickets are not available on all routes or all journeys and may not represent the lowest available fare for a particular journey.

1.5 Some participating Train Companies may offer a discount greater than 50% on selected tickets, but numbers may be limited and are offered solely at the discretion of the participating Train Company.

1.6 Rail Sale Tickets must be purchased a minimum of 1 day in advance of travel.

1.7 The Great British Rail Sale is promoted via the Great British Rail Sale website and Rail Sale Tickets are available to purchase via participating Train Companies and train ticket retailers for the Promotional Period. This is an online only sale, please contact the relevant participating Train Companies if you require assistance or have specific accessibility requirements.

1.8 Some retailers may charge a booking fee on promotional tickets. Please refer to individual retailers for more details.

2.0 Selected Routes, Limited Availability and Exclusions

2.1 The number of Rail Sale Tickets offered by each participating Train Company will vary and are limited in number.

2.2 Tickets are not available on all routes and at some peak times and are not offered by all Train Companies. See the list of participating Train Companies.

2.3 Availability is subject to specific travel exclusions across some routes due to engineering improvement works. For more details of engineering works please refer to participating Train Company websites.

2.4 Usual Railcard discounts apply to Rail Sale Tickets, but no other discounts can be used in conjunction with the Rail Sale Tickets.

2.5 This promotion is limited to Standard Class tickets. Some participating Operating Companies may offer First Class or Standard Premier tickets, but numbers may be limited and are offered solely at the discretion of the participating Train Company.

3.0 General

3.1 ATOC Ltd reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions without notice and to take appropriate action to close the offer or withdraw the Rail Sale Tickets from sale at any time.
