Line closed at Stockport - 2 to 22 August 2025

  • Major engineering work means no trains at Stockport, Macclesfield and Stoke-on-Trent from Saturday 2 to Friday 22 August.
  • We’ll get you to and from these stations by bus instead, but journeys will take longer as a result.
  • Trains between London and Manchester are running, they’ll just take a few minutes longer going by a different route.
    • Our trains to and from Manchester and Liverpool are running less frequently due to these diversions.
    • Less frequent trains between London and Liverpool means a significantly reduced Avanti West Coast timetable at Lichfield Trent Valley and Tamworth.
  • If you’re heading to Wembley on 10 August for the Community Shield, this engineering work might affect your journey. Be sure to plan ahead and check before you travel for the match.

Use our online journey planner to find the quickest way from A to B this August. Please check your journey itinerary carefully for changes.

August bank holiday engineering work – 23 to 25 August 2025

This August bank holiday weekend (Saturday 23 to Monday 25 August), Network Rail will be carrying out planned engineering work at London Euston.

As a result, there will be a reduced timetable, meaning less frequent trains on some of our routes throughout the whole bank holiday weekend. This, combined with the many great events happening across the network, may mean that our trains are busier than usual.

Whether you’re travelling for football, Creamfields, Manchester Pride, Notting Hill Carnival, Edinburgh Fringe, or for another summer adventure this bank holiday weekend, make sure you check before you travel.

Here’s a summary of how each of our routes is affected this bank holiday weekend. You can use our online journey planner to find the quickest way from A to B.
