How to book a space for your bike on an Avanti West Coast train
If you’d like to reserve a space for your bike on one of our trains, the easiest way is to do so when you book your tickets.
Once your journey is selected, have a look for the ‘reserve a bike space’ tab within the ‘Choose seats’ part of the booking process. Hang on to your ticket for your bike so you can show our staff when you board.
Remember that bike spaces are limited – usually four per train – so try to book early if you plan on bringing your bike.
If you have a fold-up bike, you don’t need to reserve a space, and you can travel at any time. Just pack your bike up and store it in the luggage racks or overhead.
Book ahead to reserve your bike space
You can make your bike reservation by either:
- Booking online when you buy your ticket.
- Or by calling 0345 528 0253* (please choose Option 7 and then Option 5 to speak to our team) if you’ve already booked your ticket.
If you already have a ticket, you can also make bike reservations at the station, but please remember that bike spaces are limited, so we can’t guarantee a space if you try to reserve one at short notice.

Tips for travelling by train with a bike
Arrive early - If you’re booking a bike space on the station, make sure you give yourself plenty of time. Allow yourself an extra 10 minutes before your train's departure.
Loading your bike - You’ll need to be let into the cycle area to store your bike, so contact a member of staff to be let in through the crew door. Allow yourself another extra 5 minutes.
Getting off the train - Speak to the Train Manager when you board the train, let them know when you’re getting off and they’ll arrange for someone to help offload your bike from the cycle area. You won’t be able to wait in the cycle area during your journey.
Storing your bike at the station
If you’re looking for a way to store your bike at the station while you travel, you’ll find our Bike Hubs at Rugby, Coventry, Birmingham International and Preston stations. The hubs are fully-enclosed, with 24-hour key-fob access, and they’re CCTV monitored for extra security.
Some of our Bike Hubs also offer bike hire and maintenance where possible, as well as access to exclusive changing rooms, and easy access to the station platforms. There are 200 spaces for storing bikes at each station, all the more reason to break out the helmets and lycra.
Bike Hub costs just £5 to join. All you need to do is give us your name, email address and show some identification and we’ll get you registered for a Bike Hub fob. Speak to a member of our station staff to find out more.
