UK Train Times

Train times are usually released 12 weeks in advance, so you can plan ahead with confidence. However, sometimes, engineering works or timetable changes can delay the release of certain services.

If the train times for your journey aren’t available yet, don’t worry - we’ll update them as soon as they’re confirmed. In the meantime, you can:

• Sign up for alerts so you’re notified as soon as times are released.
• Check for service updates or engineering works that might affect your route.

First and last train times vary depending on your specific departure station and whether you are traveling on a weekday or weekend. To check the first and last scheduled services for your trip, enter your origin and destination into our online tool at the top of this page and adjust the departure/arrival time accordingly.

National Rail timetables across the UK are generally updated twice a year - typically in May and December. While the core frequencies of our major routes (like London to Manchester or Birmingham) stay consistent, we highly recommend checking your specific train times closer to your travel date to account for these seasonal adjustments.

Both yes and no! Scheduled timetables do not show platform numbers in advance, as platforms are assigned dynamically on the day of travel based on station traffic. Final platform numbers are typically confirmed and displayed at the station (and on our Live Train Status page) roughly 15 to 20 minutes before your train is due to depart.

There are a range of factors which may lead to delays in train services. This may include adverse weather conditions, staff shortages, technical issues or disruptions on the line. If your service has been delayed by more than 15 minutes, you may be entitled to a repayment.

The Avanti West Coast team aims to update passengers about any service cancellations as soon as possible. These updates will be sent out via station information boards, tannoy announcements, on the Live Train Status page and via the app.

If your train is cancelled, you can find specific information about the reasons why and what to do next via the Journey Checker. Usually, your tickets will be valid to travel on the service scheduled before or after your cancelled train on the same route.

If you’ve missed your scheduled train due to a delay on another Avanti West Coast service, you may be entitled to a repayment.

Missing the train as a result of other travel delays won’t be eligible for a repayment from us. Check the reservation terms on your ticket to see if you can take an alternative service. If you’re unsure, check with a member of the station team or go to Help and Support page.

To avoid missing your train, you may be able to change your journey times and dates ahead of your scheduled service.
