Edinburgh Waverley Station

Situated on Princes Street in the heart of the city centre, Edinburgh Waverley is the main station serving Scotland’s capital. The station takes its name after the first novel by Scottish author and Edinburgh resident, Sir Walter Scott.

Covering 25 acres, it is the second-largest station in the UK, with direct connections from Edinburgh to London as well as trains to the rest of Scotland. The amount of services and trains that run through Edinburgh on a daily basis means passengers can reach as far south as Exeter St David's in a day, or London, Inverness or Manchester.

Situated in a steep, narrow valley between the medieval Old Town and the 18th century New Town, it’s close to Princes Street, Edinburgh premier shopping street. A valley to the west, formerly the site of the Nor Loch, is now Princes Street Gardens public park. Adjacent to the station is one of the most luxurious and expensive hotels in the UK, The Balmoral Hotel, with views over central Edinburgh.

The main terminus for LNER, Edinburgh Waverley station is also served by Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, ScotRail, and Transpennine Express. There is also Caledonian Sleeper trains from London Euston.

Facilities at the station include toilets, showers and baby changing facilities and public WiFi. It has step-free access, and available wheelchairs should you need them. Assistance is available to and from platforms, the car park and taxi rank. There is a long stay car park and storage for cycles. Buses stop nearby.

Edinburgh station has regular services to and from Birmingham New Street, London Euston and London King’s Cross, Liverpool Lime Street, Manchester Airport, Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria, Newcastle, and Plymouth, plus every station in Scotland.
