Glasgow Central Station

Right in the heart of the city centre, Glasgow Central station couldn’t be better placed for access to everything this thriving place has to offer. Once an industrial powerhouse, Scotland’s largest city is now a bustling cultural metropolis, with plenty to see and do, whatever your interests.

The station is the busiest in Scotland, with more than 38 million passengers using it every year. Originally opened in 1879, with the low-level station added in 1896, the building is a category A listed building with a distinctive glass roof and a glass bridge over Argyle Street, nicknamed the ‘Hielanman's Umbrella’ for the Highlanders displaced to Glasgow during the Clearances who used to meet there.

The station has a taxi rank right outside as well as bus links across the city, and Glasgow’s famous ‘clockwork orange’ subway (so-called because it runs in one single, circular line, and the train seats are traditionally orange) is just a few minutes’ walk away. Glasgow Central has everything you need whether you’re heading into the city or jumping on a train, including cafes to grab a hot drink and a snack, toilets and showers.

With high-speed direct connections all across the UK to major cities like London, Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool, as well as local connections within Glasgow and the surrounding areas, Glasgow Central is well-placed for wherever you’re travelling to. Assistance is available to and from platforms, the car park and the taxi rank.
