Oxenholme Lake District Station

Oxenholme Lake District Station is located in the small settlement of Oxenholme in Cumbria. Parking is available on site although spaces are limited compared to other larger stations. Taxis are readily available from the station’s taxi rank and two disabled parking spaces can be found at the entrance.

The station features a passenger lounge and a small shop where light refreshments can be purchased. A conveniently placed post box and ticket machine can also be found outside the station’s main doors.

This small English hamlet benefits from the amenities of nearby Kendal, yet the station’s closest amenities include The Glen Guest House, The Station Inn, Hearts Designs gift and card shop, outdoor pursuits facilities such as Kendal Golf Driving Range and even Westmorland General Hospital, which is just a few minutes’ drive away.

Access to and from the station is easily available by road along the B6254, which heads north towards Kendal and south towards the M6 and beyond to Kirkby Lonsdale. This station was opened in April 1847 and has featured in a number of children’s books written by Arthur Ransome.

As its name would suggest, Oxenholme Lake District is the gateway to the Lake District, just a 20 minute train ride from Lake Windermere.
