Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On 2026

One of the UK's most famous annual light festivals, Blackpool Illuminations, is coming back to the northern resort yet again in late summer. The 2026 Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On event takes place on Friday 4 September 2026 on the Tower Festival Headland and marks the official start of the illuminations season. Expect live music, entertainment and special guests,  as part of the celebration and immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere before the famous lights are switched on. British pop group Five, together with The Feeling and Lucy Spraggan, are among the performers announced for the event.

What to expect for the year ahead

Following the switch-on, you can enjoy miles of spectacular light displays along Blackpool's Promenade, featuring traditional favourites and modern illuminated installations. Don’t miss the Lightpool Festival during October half-term and the festive Christmas by the Sea programme, if you are looking for things to inspire the young minds. The Illuminations are expected to remain lit until 3 January 2027.
