The Met Office has issued weather warnings due to Storm Boelo, with high winds affecting Scotland and northern England on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October. As a result of these weather conditions, there's a risk of disruption on the rail network. We strongly recommend you plan ahead, allow extra time for your journey, and follow our advice below for your travel date.
Saturday 24 October: check before you travel on all Avanti West Coast routes.
Sunday 25 October: we strongly recommend you avoid travel on the West Coast Main Line north of Preston. We’re running a reduced timetable north of Preston on Sunday further to speed restrictions applied by Network Rail. Fewer trains will run and journeys will take longer. Other train companies will also be affected by these weather warnings, speed restrictions and engineering work, with TransPennine Express running no trains between Carlisle and Scotland. Avanti West Coast destinations north of Preston include Lancaster, Blackpool North, Oxenholme Lake District, Penrith North Lakes, Carlisle, Lockerbie, Glasgow Central and Edinburgh Waverley.
Avanti West Coast tickets dated Sunday 25 October for journeys north of Preston can be used at no extra cost on Saturday 24, Monday 26 or Tuesday 27 October. If you no longer wish to travel, you can claim a full refund from where you bought your ticket.
