Things to do in Telford

You can’t visit Telford without going to the Ironbridge Gorge Museums. They’re havens for anyone who’s interested in the region’s past, with a particular focus on the Industrial Revolution and, of course, the world-famous iron bridge itself. You can go down the Tar Tunnel, marvel at Blists Hill Victorian Town and check out the Jackfield Tile Museum. Kids will love Enginuity, a science-based attraction full of experiments, and you’ll even get the chance to generate electricity using water.

You don’t have to be a kid to appreciate Telford’s Exotic Zoo, which really lives up to its name as it’s home to dozens of creatures that you don’t see in most zoos. You can get up close with a host of amphibians, reptiles, insects, spiders, birds and mammals for an unforgettable experience. Education is a big part of the project, and the zoo has a touring exhibition van that visits schools and town centres, so the zoo might come to you.

If retail therapy is more your thing, head to Telford Shopping Centre in the heart of town. It’s home to dozens of high street names for fashion, cosmetics and jewellery, and you’ll also be able to grab a bite to eat in one of the cafes or restaurants in the centre. It’s just a few minutes’ walks from the station via a covered walkway.
