Wellington (Shropshire) Station

Wellington Train Station lies at the heart of the town, between the Haygate and College districts. Wellington lies just north of the M54 motorway, a 12 minute train ride away from Telford Central and a short car ride south of The Princess Royal Hospital.

With its central town location, Wellington Station benefits from being close to several shops, bars, restaurants, hotels and other amenities. Of these establishments, some of the best known include chains such as Greggs, as well as smaller establishments like The William Withering bar and The Steaming Mug Coffee House. There are also several convenience stores and supermarkets nearby, including Iceland and Heron Foods, and even Wellington Market.

Opened in June 1849, Wellington Station was known as “Wellington - Telford West” in the 1960s. As the nearby town of Telford grew however, and its own station, Telford Central, was built in the 1980s, Wellington’s station then deferred to its original name. The station today underwent refurbishment in 2009-2010 and has handled upwards of 0.6 million passengers every year since 2015.

Services run from Wellington to Aberystwyth on the Welsh coast, as well as inland to destinations across England, Wales and Scotland, including Birmingham New Street and Shrewsbury.
