Chester is easy to explore on foot, and there’s plenty near the station that shows the city beyond its Roman landmarks. The Grosvenor Museum is a good central stop, with collections that cover Roman Chester, archaeology, and decorative arts, so it gives you a fuller sense of the city’s history in one place.
If you want to stay outdoors, the city walls are easy to follow in sections, and the stretch around the Watergate gives you views across the racecourse and riverside of the city. Eastgate Street is also worth a wander for its black-and-white frontages and independent shops along one of Chester’s best-known historic streets.
