Travelling from London?
London’s packed with places you can fit in before you travel without heading far across the city. The Wellcome Collection is close to Euston and easy to drop into for free galleries and exhibition spaces, plus a plentiful bookshop if you want something for the journey.
If you’d rather be outdoors, Regent’s Park is nearby for wide paths and open lawns, and you can make it a simple loop that still leaves plenty of time to get back to the station. To grab a quick bite to eat before your departure, Coal Drops Yard at King’s Cross is an essential visit for independent stores and places to eat, with a quick walk back across to Euston afterwards.
London Euston is simple to reach by Underground and local buses, and taxis are easy to pick up nearby. Inside the station, you’ll find plenty of food and drink options, shops for travel basics, and clear areas to wait before your platform is called.
Travelling to Edinburgh?
Edinburgh is built for walking, with the Old Town and New Town meeting right around the station. Edinburgh Castle is the obvious landmark to aim for first, sitting above the city on the volcanic rock, while the Royal Mile links the castle end of the Old Town down towards Holyrood.
For viewpoints, Calton Hill is a short climb with one of the best city panoramas, and Arthur’s Seat is the longer walk, taking you higher above the rooftops for wide views across the Firth of Forth on a clear day. If you want museums and galleries in the centre, the National Museum of Scotland is easy to spend a few hours in, with everything from Scottish history to design and science under one roof.
Edinburgh Waverley sits right between the Old Town and New Town, so it’s easy to walk straight out towards Princes Street or up into the Old Town streets. Taxis and buses are close by, and tours often depart nearby, so you can continue onwards quickly once you arrive.
