Getting from Manchester to Crewe by train

Crewe exists as it is because of the railways – before the 1830s it was a tiny hamlet. When it was chosen as the location for major railway locomotive works, its growth and importance were assured, and it grew incredibly quickly. Look at a railway map and you’ll see why it’s so perfect – it’s where multiple lines meet, and it made it the ideal place for passengers to change trains in the middle of England, wherever they were coming from or going to.

The railway works have mostly gone now, but the town remains bustling. It’s a market town of more than 70,000, with industry and commerce thriving. Its status as a great railway connection also holds true, and it’s why millions of passengers know the station so well.
