Manchester Piccadilly Station

Manchester Piccadilly is the largest train station in Manchester. It opened in 1842 as Store Street and was renamed Manchester London Road in 1847 before becoming Manchester Piccadilly in 1960. It’s the busiest station in the city of Manchester with over 30 million passengers passing through between April 2019 and March 2020. Manchester Piccadilly is the third busiest station in the UK outside London, and the second busiest interchange station outside London, with nearly 4 million passengers changing trains here every year.

The station underwent a £100 million refurbishment in 2002, transforming it into a modern station that’s packed with facilities and serves both national and local destinations. Direct trains to London take just over 2 hours, trains to Glasgow are roughly 3 hours 17 minutes, and journeys to Crewe take roughly 1 hour.

The station is accessible with lifts and escalators providing step-free access. There are also wide-access doors and gates, braille signs, hearing loops and accessible toilet fasciitis.

There are multiple cafes and shops in Manchester Piccadilly Station over two levels, as well as a First Class Lounge for Avanti West Coast customers where First Class passengers can enjoy hot drinks, snacks and high-speed WiFi before boarding their train.

It’s easy to get to and from Manchester Piccadilly from all over the city. The Piccadilly Metrolink tram stop is located on the ground level of the station, as well as numerous bus services. There is a taxi rank at the Fairfield Street exit of the station and a long-stay car park.
