We believe travel should FEEL GOOD for everyone! So, we’re launching Feel Good Field Trips for local schools across our route.
FEEL GOOD TRAVEL.
Feel Good Futures is an exciting new programme from Avanti West Coast, building on the success of Feel Good Field Trips.
Our goal? To inspire young people aged 14–18 to explore careers in the railway and wider transport industry through fun, hands-on learning experiences.
Students in Years 9 to 12 will have the opportunity to take part in a range of eye-opening visits and activities, including:
These experiences are designed to broaden horizons, build confidence, and show young people the wide variety of roles available across the railway industry.
This free programme is open to secondary schools and colleges located within 3 miles of any station served by Avanti West Coast.

Feel Good Field Trips was a nationwide initiative developed by Avanti West Coast to make rail travel more accessible to children and young people across the UK.
At Avanti West Coast, we believe that train travel can inspire, educate, and transform lives. Through Feel Good Field Trips, thousands of students were given the chance to take part in experiences they might not otherwise have had.
Since launching in January 2023, the programme delivered:
By removing financial and logistical barriers, Feel Good Field Trips helped schools integrate educational travel into the curriculum promoting curiosity, confidence, and a better understanding of rail safety.
That means we're determined to make sure every moment of your journey feels good!
We want to connect young people from all backgrounds to learning opportunities and experiences that may previously have been inaccessible to them, and we think that Feel Good Field Trips are a brilliant way to do just that.
Feel Good Field Trips gives pupils aged 4-18 the chance to travel across the West Coast Main Line for hands-on learning, fun and culturally diverse days out.
From learning about the science of sound in a state-of-the-art London recording studio, to art workshops in Coventry City of Culture 2021 and cooking on Manchester’s famous Curry Mile, Feel Good Field Trips will offer up to 5,000 pupils previously unattainable field trip experiences. The schools involved are from Avanti West Coast’s network of partner schools on the Avanti Schools Programme, which all have high pupil premium rates.

We kicked off the campaign with a trip to London with pupils from Ashbury Meadow Primary school in Manchester, who were joined by none other than award winning spoken word artist and rapper, George the Poet. George ran a poetry workshop with the children and helped them to create their own spoken word poetry, which they then recorded at Soho Sonic Studios in North London.
Other trips so far have included a hands-on cookery day on Manchester’s iconic Curry Mile, and a visit to Coventry’s Herbert Museum to experience local artist Daniel Lismore’s exhibition ‘Be Yourself: Everyone Else is Already Taken.’
Now we’re taking more young people on exciting trips with our Community Rail Partners. These include outdoor adventuring in the Lake District, tours of Bolton Wanderers football club, art workshops at The Herbert in Coventry, plus unique days out in Liverpool. This is just the beginning for our Feel Good Field Trips, and we can’t wait to see what exciting experiences pupils get up to next!
The initiative builds on the Avanti Schools Programme, which aspires to connect young people from a range of backgrounds to opportunities across our route. Those schools who are eligible to take part are the partner schools in our Avanti Schools Programme. For more information about the Feel Good Field Trips campaign – email david.savage.crl@gmail.com
